DIY Chain Menards Bets Bigger is Better

With the opening of Menards' megastore in Chesterfield Township, the Wisconsin-based home improvement chains group is upping the ante against DIY giants Lowes and Home Depot, and putting further pressure on smaller and independent stores.

Menards' first Metro Detroit store opened in February to record crowds, and the company is eager to add more, including the Livonia location already under construction. A store in Three Rivers opened this month, and the company will celebrate the grand opening of a Port Huron location this summer. Menards has 23 stores statewide.
