DVD Players on the Way Out, Study Says

More and more consumers are watching their entertainment content on smartphones and tablets, and they’re doing so at the expense of DVD players, according to a new study.

The study by Chadwick Martin Bailey found more than two-thirds of 1,400 American consumers surveyed are using smartphones and tablets to watch full-length movies, and 47% of tablet owners said they’ve replaced portable DVD players with their tablets.

“The increasing ubiquity and capabilities of smartphones, tablets and the mobile networks that support them is having enormous implications for the entertainment and consumer electronics industries,”
