Super Bowl Drives HDTV Sales, Says CEA

Super Bowls prompt a lot of U.S. consumers to buy a new TV, according to the Consumer Electronics Association.

The Arlington-based trade group says 22 percent of high-definition television owners in the U.S. bought their television specifically for watching the Super Bowl. It says no other sporting event comes close to prompting that many HDTV sales.

Sports events, namely the Super Bowl, continue to drive significant TV sales every year," says CEA senior research analyst Kevin Tillmann. "In fact, the impact of these sports events on consumer electronic sales is even higher
