Samsung Electronics has announced the worldwide debut of three digital cameras that include its newest flagship: the NX200 Compact System Camera, equipped with a list of professional-standard features including Samsung’s in-house-developed 20.3-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor ($900; September availability). The other two cameras (Models MV800 and WB750) due out in September at SRPs of $279 each, are affordably priced, with features derived from consumer research and designed to set them apart on the salesfloor, said the company.

Reid Sullivan, Samsung senior vice president of digital imaging, said the NX200, besides carrying the newly designed sensor, has a new processor and mechanical shutter system. He characterized the NX200 as a “retro modern design, easy to hold and control.” Its stable-grip form factor makes it suitable for accommodating any one of nine i-Function 2.0 lenses Samsung has made available. It has a 3-inch VGA AMOLED high-contrast display, and its Smart Panel user interface boasts “hot keys” that let photographers switch to key functions without needing to scroll through menus. Other premium features include high-speed continuous shooting, wide-range (100-12,800) ISO and Full HD movie recording capability. Panorama mode enables ultra-wide shooting or conversion of a shot into 3D.

The HD-recording, 16.1-megapixel MV800 Multi-View camera is an ultra-compact point-and-shoot model featuring a 3-inch touch-capacitive LCD screen that flips out for high- or low-angle shooting.  It also features a 5x optical zoom and a 26mm wide-angle lens, all in a svelte body. Its Live Panorama function allows capture and subsequent viewing of images in 3D.  It is pre-loaded with 12 Magic Frame background templates and Smart Filter, a bundle of 14 artistic effects the user can access, including Water Paint and Cartoon. Also, its picture-in-picture feature allows photographers to insert one image into another.

Samsung’s WB750 12.5-megapixel camera, meanwhile, is the longest-zooming Samsung compact camera, featuring an 18x optical zoom and 24x Smart Zoom technology. With the touch of a single button, it also can record Full HD video.  It is the first compact camera from Samsung to use the company’s proprietary Back Side Illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor for improved low-light performance, said Sullivan.  Its Dual Capture function lets the user simultaneously record in 1080p video while shooting 10-megapixel still photos.  And the Creative Movie Maker feature eliminates the need for using a computer to create special-effects-filled Full HD movie clips, as they can be worked on within the camera, said Samsung.
