Melinda Foster, 30, Marketing Director, Century Stereo, San Jose, Calif.

Background: Grew up primarily in Lodi, Calif., and now lives in San Jose, Calif.
Career: Eight years in the industry as the marketing director for Century Stereo. Foster is responsible for designing and implementing a strategic marketing and business development plan, which includes planning several events for consumers and industry partners, communications and PR activities, as well as managing the company’s website and social media. Foster is a registered outreach instructor for CEDIA and is actively involved in local ASID and NARI chapters.
Industry accomplishments: Shortly after assuming her role, sales at Century Stereo rose by four percent in 2011 and 20 percent in 2012. Active marketing created a ripple effect that breathed new life into the company.
What you like best about your job: “The thing I like best is how varied the different aspects of my job are. Every day I’m doing something different from planning our next event, networking, teaching or designing creative.”
What you like least: “Cold calls off the street or on the phone from people trying to sell us marketing and advertising services when they have no idea what our company does and invariably waste my time. Common courtesy would dictate they do a little homework first and then make an appointment.”
Favorite pastime: Hiking. I find it so relaxing to wander off into the middle of nowhere.
Last book read: “Game of Thrones”
Favorite movie: A few include “Lonesome Dove,” “Underworld” series, “The Hunger Games,” “Ip Man” and “Agora”
Best concert: Any Depeche Mode show, Pete Rock live at Yoshi’s in Berkeley, Calif.
Favorite CE product of the year: The McIntosh MC275v6. This is the sixth revision of an amplifier that has been on the market for over 50 years. In an industry where products are hot one moment and rendered obsolete the next, a piece that can remain relevant and loved for so long is an impressive feat.
If you could be anyplace else right now, it would be: I would be on vacation traveling the world.
