4K Shipments Surged in Second Quarter

Shipments of Ultra HD/4K TVs jumped worldwide in the second quarter, as the amount of shipments in the quarter exceeded the entire total of 2013.

That’s according to a report issued this week by NPD DisplaySearch. NPD’s Quarterly Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report found that 2.1 million 4K sets shipped worldwide in the quarter, as opposed to 1.6 million all of last year.

“New 4K TV model introductions have broadened the 4K TV business, which has become a lot like the high-end TV market, in general,” Paul Gray, director of European research for NPD DisplaySearch, said as part of the announcement.

“Even so, there needs to be greater implementation of broadcast offerings that deepen the value of 4K sets, beyond pixel counts.”
