When Amazon's Kindle Fire became available for pre-order on September 28, consumers opened their pocketbooks. eDataSource, an online research company that specializes in online sales, estimated that Amazon sold 95,000 of the devices on their first day of availability.

This made the $199 Kindle Fire the top-selling item in the electronics section of Amazon's online marketplace, even though the sales were preorders and the device will not arrive until November.

Amazon has never disclosed exact sales figures for any version of the Kindle.

Amazon also announced three other Kindles at the same time: the new Kindle ($79), the Kindle Touch ($99) and the Kindle Touch 3G ($149). Although it is estimated that  Amazon sold almost 50,000 more Kindle Fires, eDataSource estimates that the sales of the other three Kindles combined totaled 25,000 units.

Sales of accessories for the Kindle are also up. eDataSource also reported that 27% of Kindles were sold with with an accessory, with Marware protective covers being the most popular for the Kindle Fire.
