Amazon Makes “Fire” Phone Official

Amazon’s long-awaited 3D smartphone is finally here, and it’s called “Fire.”

Keeping up with the branding of the Kindle Fire tablet and Fire TV streaming box, the new phone is the company’s first foray into the mobile phone space.

The product features two new Amazon technologies- Dynamic Perspective (described as “a new sensor system to respond to the way you hold, view, and move Fire, enabling experiences not possible on other smartphones”) and Firefly, which recognizes web and email addresses, phone and bar codes, and products- which can easily be purchased.

“Fire Phone puts everything you love about Amazon in the palm of your hand—instant access to Amazon’s vast content ecosystem and exclusive features like the Mayday button, ASAP, Second Screen, X-Ray, free unlimited photo storage, and more,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com Founder and CEO, said in a statement.

The Fire product ships July 25, and is exclusive to AT&T. Preorders are open now, in $199 and $299 editions, with a two-year contract. Customers also get a free year of Amazon Prime- or an extra year on their existing membership- when they purchase the Fire phone.

Is there any word when or if this will be available at retail shops like Best Buy? It would be great if you could follow how this product gets adopted and how that enhanced showrooming …. err… I mean… Dynamic Perspective shopping experience gets adopted by people.
