Amazon.com is the latest retailer to try to make things up to HD DVD buyers, announcing a $50 credit to any customers who purchased an HD DVD player, Newsfactor.com reported Thursday.

The coupon, which applies to any customer who purchased a player prior to Feb. 23, can be used on any product sold by Amazon. Other retailers, including Best Buy and Circuit City, had earlier put forward similar make-up offers.

“New technologies don’t always work out as planned,” the company wrote in an e-mail to customers who had purchased the player. “We at Amazon.com value our customer relationships more than anything and would like to support customers who purchased these players by offering a credit good for $50 off any products sold by Amazon.com.”
