According to the AP, Jobs will not give his customary address, when he has traditionally announced Apple's newest major products. Instead, marketing executive Philip Schiller will deliver the keynote. Apple did not give a reason for Jobs' absence.
The company also said it will cease presenting at Macworld Expo following 2009, because the company is now "reaching more people in more ways than ever before" through it retail stores and its highly successful Web operation. Macworld will be held Jan. 5-9 in San Francisco.
"While we are obviously disappointed by Apple’s decision not to participate in Macworld 2010, we are on track for a terrific show this year," IDG World Expo, the Expo's presenter, said in a statement, adding that it plans to continue the event, for the "Mac community worldwide," even without Apple's participation.
