Apple has extended its dominance in the worldwide tablet market, with Android tablets- including Amazon's Kindle Fire- experiencing a sharp drop. That's according to IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Media Tablet and Ereader Tracker.
Overall, 17.4 million tablets were sold worldwide in the first quarter of the year, down from the previous quarter's 28.2 million.
"Apple reasserted its dominance in the market this quarter, driving huge shipment totals at a time when all but a few Android vendors saw their numbers drop precipitously after posting big gains during the holiday buying season," Tom Mainelli, research director for Mobile Connected Devices at IDC, said as part of the announcement.
