Apple is having some success in convincing BlackBerry users to switch to its latest device. Around 12 percent of customers who bought the new iPhone 3GS at retail stores in its first weekend did so to replace a BlackBerry, according to a Piper Jaffray survey cited by AppleInsider.com.

The survey also found that of 3GS buyers, 57 percent were buying the 16GB version, 66 percent were Mac users, 72 percent were already AT&T customers, and 56 percent were replacing an older iPhone.

The survey was taken of 256 customers at stores in Minnesota and New York, the site said.
