Apple Profit Nearly Doubles

Apple Tuesday reported an $11.6 billion profit for the second quarter, putting to rest fears from observers that the company’s results would underwhelm.

In the end, the company nearly doubled the $6 billion profit it posted the same quarter last year. The company sold 35.1 million iPhones (up 88 percent), 11.8 million iPads (up 151 percent) and 4 million Mac computers (up 7 percent.)

“The new iPad is off to a great start, and across the year you’re going to see a lot more of the kind of innovation that only Apple can deliver,” CEO Tim Cook said as part of the release.
