Asus Unwraps Dual-Screen Combo Notebook/Tablet
Asus will begin selling next month what it said is the world’s first dual-screen combination ultra-portable notebook/multi-touch tablet device: the Taichi.
Described by Asus chairman Jonney Shih as “a fusion of notebook and tablet,” the Windows 8 device, which is priced at $1,299 for the base model (Intel Core i5-3317U processor, 4GM RAM, 128GB SSD), features back-to-back 11.6-inch 1080p IPS Full HD panels which can be used simultaneously or independent of one another.
It offers a slim profile that tapers to 3mm, weighs 1.25kg (about 2-3/4 pounds), and in standard-use mode, with the lid open, it is an “ultra-portable” notebook, but with the lid closed, it becomes a tablet. The device also features a five-megapixel camera that can record in Full HD 1080p video, and a second 720p HD video camera. Battery life is rated at five hours measured with Wi-Fi Web browsing.
