Barnes and Noble and Microsoft have changed the terms of their digital-reading deal announced in 2012, according to the Wall Street Journal.

B&N will no longer work on apps for Windows 8, and will instead support a proposed Microsoft e-reading service.

Microsoft had agreed to invest $600 million in the Nook platform in the original deal.
