Best Buy announced Thursday that it has promoted Laura Bishop to the position of vice president of government relations. An eight-year company veteran, Bishop was most recently senior director of government relations.

In her new role, Bishop will lead the company's government relations team. Parker Brugge will remain in his role as director of government relations and will report to Bishop, a company spokeswoman said.

“Laura is an energetic and passionate advocate for Best Buy, working hard to bring about change that serves our company and the communities in which we live and work," CEO Brian Dunn said as part of the announcement. "Perhaps even more important, she is fostering change that can advance our nation’s economy through polices that focus on job growth and access to technology."

Prior to her Best Buy career, Bishop worked primarily in the public sector, including stints in the Clinton-era State Department and White House. She is also president of the Consumer Electronics Retailers Coalition (CERC).
