Best Buy Debuts "Happier" Holiday Ads

November 18, 2008 By Stephen Silver
Best Buy in the last week has begun launching its holiday advertising push, using the slogan "You, Happier."

According to an analysis of the effort in Brandweek magazine the campaign, dreamed up by ad agency BBDO, is based on "tugging at the heartstrings" of customers, and reminding them of what the company and its products can do to make their holidays a happy time.

The "You, Happier" slogan had debuted earlier this fall, but is now being rolled out in a big way in TV advertising.

The campaign includes several spots featuring human-interest stories and other slice-of-life tales, including one of wives on a military base buying gifts for their spouses who they hadn't seen in a year, and another a wife who surprised her husband by upgrading his mobile phone the night before Christmas. Other ads tout deals on specific products.

The company also plans to distribute a holiday gift guide this year, after not doing so for several years.
