Retail sales in the U.S. rose 1.1 percent in September, according to government figures released Monday.
The electronics and appliance category was a leading driver of growth, jumping 4.5 percent. This reflected the successful launch of the iPhone 5.
The overall increase was also driven by stronger car sales and higher gas prices.
