Black Friday Roundup: A Big Day For Retail

The annual Black Friday- and with it, the expanded "Black Friday weekend" has come and gone, and reports are it was a strong one for U.S. retailers.

According to the National Retail Federation's survey, conducted in association with Prosper Insights & Analytics, 141 million unique shoppers participated in the Black Friday weekend, an uptick from 139 million in 2012. Meanwhile, thanks to early openings at many stores, sales on Thanksgiving Day itself jumped 27 percent from last year's numbers.

NRF added that 37.7 percent of shoppers purchased consumer electronics. Indeed, the Consumer Electronics Association said Sunday that, according to its preliminary survey, 126 million U.S. adults will have shopped over the weekend, through Monday.
