Black Friday Wrap-Up: $44 Billion Seen Spent On Weekend, Friday Online Sales Pass $1 Billion
Amid some signs of rising consumer confidence and economic optimism, shoppers visited retailers last week for the 2012 edition of Black Friday.
According to its last-minute preliminary survey, the Consumer Electronics Association predicted last week that consumers would spend $43.7 billion on holiday gifts over the Thanksgiving/Black Friday weekend, with 29 percent of U.S. adults shopping on Black Friday itself. Electronics were seen as the second most-popular item, behind only clothes.
Meanwhile, Comscore has reported a total of $1.042 billion in online sales for Black Friday itself, a 26 percent increase over the 2011 figure. Comscore also reported that consumer electronics online spending is up 18 percent from last year for the holiday season to date.
