BrandSource Holds Convention in Las Vegas, Celebrates "Another Great Year"
Buying group BrandSource held their annual national convention recently, August 26-30, at the Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, sponsored by Electrolux, Whirlpool, Serta, Sealy, GE Appliances, LG Appliances, and Samsung. The event, intending to help members grow their businesses and increase revenue, featured a full itinerary of product training, informative showcases, regional sales meetings, stimulating educational seminars, and keynote speakers.
The event featured a number of educational sessions including Dan Miller’s “Teaching the Trainer: Teaching Your Personnel How to Sell Protection Plans,” Wayne Rivers’ “Top Nine Reasons Family Businesses Fail,” Shelli Ulrich’s and Alicia Zich’s “Succession Planning" as well as many others—30 in total. Product training sessions with companies such as GE, Samsung, LG, Electrolux and others also provided opportunities for visitors to become familiar with new models and features of the latest products. A lively discussion between industry leaders, including representatives of Whirlpool, Serta, Ashley Furniture and Google also was held on topics in the furniture, bedding, major appliance and digital markets.
In addition to these product and information sessions, the event also included a variety of activities for new members such as the First Time Attendees Reception as well as the bi-annual Women in Business Luncheon that featured prominent counseling psychologist, Dr. Sabrina Starling, as guest speaker. Other events were aimed at specific groups within the membership of BrandSource, like the educational sessions entitled “Retail Math: Understanding the Math behind your Business and How You Can Be More Profitable” and “Taking Ownership: Buying Process Bootcamp" for Young Professionals. Guests also were impressed with its annual western themed Stampede event.
CEO Jim Ristow, in his "State of the Union" address, lauded the enormous success of the membership while warning them about complacence in the face of changes in the industry, saying that “We look to the future, not the past. We are in a tidal wave of change. You get to ride the wave, or get crushed by the wave.”
BrandSource were satisfied with the event and, in a press release, stated their positive outlook for the future: "The convention in Las Vegas celebrated another great year for BrandSource and its ever-growing membership," the group said. "It is our belief that the best days of our family of independent dealers are truly ahead of us."
