The CE industry's latest intellectual property lawsuit has a rare dimension- it's a manufacturer taking on a retailer.
Manufacturer Callpod, which sells a product that charges multiple electronics devices at once, this week filed a lawsuit alleging that Target has violated its intellectual property rights by selling a product called the "6-in-1 device charger." The suit, filed in the Northern District of Illinois, also sought a temporary restraining order to prevent Target from selling the product, which was granted on Tuesday.
"Intellectual property is of paramount importance to Callpod and we will vigorously defend our rights against infringers," Callpod's CEO, Darren Guccione, said in a statement. Callpod believes the product is too similar to its Chargepod product.
