Zooms Getting Really Super
The Canon PowerShot SX50 HS 12.1 MP Digital Camera ($479) with 50x Wide-Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom, EVF and 2.8-Inch Vari-Angle LCD is the latest (2013) superzoom bridge camera from Canon, superceeding the SX40 HS.
Powered by a new set of ultrasonic and voice coil motor for fast and near-silent zooming, the SX50 HS is capable of 50x zoom from 24mm wide angle to a whooping 1200mm. Sharp and stable image captures with improved AF functions is assisted with seek-and-lock capability of the zoom framing assist. With zoomplus, users can digitally extends the zoom to 100x.
Just Keep Zooming
Olympus recently made a major play in the super-zoom category with its new STYLUS SP-820UZ iHS ($369), featuring a 40x optical zoom. The camera includes Olympus’ new Super-Resolution Zoom feature, which doubles the focus distance to 80x zoom.
