The Consumer Electronics Association this week announced the formation of the 4K Working Group, which will focus on understanding and educating consumers about "the newest era in high-definition television."

Industry veteran Gary Yacoubian, now president and CEO of Specialty Technologies/SVSound, will chair the committee, which will focus on defining 4K, fostering discussion about content, and raising awareness. Those respective tasks will be headed by Frank De Martin of Mitsubishi, Bryan Burns of ESPN and John Taylor of LG.

“Innovation is the key to our industry, and 4K is the latest innovation that will transform the home viewing experience,” Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA, said in a statement. “Under CEA’s leadership, the 4K Working Group will bring together all parties with an interest in 4K to bring this technology to market and enhance the viewing experience for consumers.”
