CEA Mourns House Speaker FoleyOctober 20, 2013
Thomas Foley, the Democratic Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives in the early 1990s, passed away Friday the age of 84.
Foley was a longtime friend of the consumer electronics industry, and CEA president and CEO Gary Shapiro issued a statement mourning his passing.
“We mourn the death of Speaker Tom Foley. In addition to his great service on behalf of our nation, Speaker Foley was a fan and supporter of consumer technology. He was an audiophile who enjoyed the best of our industry’s high fidelity audio products," Shapiro said.
"He also was a regular attendee at the International CES, as he recognized the importance of interacting with the technologies and people who would be impacted by the policy debates occurring in Washington. Our hearts go out to his wife Heather, their family and friends.”
