Pioneer Electronics (USA), celebrating its 80th anniversary, held court in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center at CES 2018, teaming with Google to demonstrate what could be characterized as a kind of “reverse remote start” technology: round-the-clock demos were conducted over Wi-Fi from a Toyota C-HR outfitted with a prototype Pioneer in-dash multimedia receiver of Android Auto over wireless and of Google Assistant, now available on Android Auto.
A Google demonstrator showed how through voice control, a driver could “remote start” a light or temperature-adjust a Nest thermostat from the confines of the automobile. Ted Cardenas, Pioneer (USA) vice president, pointed out that the capability, in essence, brings the smart home into the car.
The two new prototype in-dash multimedia receivers, future additions to its NEX lineup, are the AVIC-W8400NEX and AVH-W4400NEX.
Also featured at the booth were Pioneer’s full line of aftermarket products with smartphone connectivity, along with corollary technologies related to the development of autonomous driving.
