Cisco Systems is planning to make a big push into the consumer electronics market, one set to begin with the introduction of products at International CES next month. That's according to a report Tuesday in the New York Times.

The products, which the company told the Times is part of a "long-term strategy," include a whole-home digital stereo system. Also on the way are products meant to enable easier use of Internet video on televisions, as well as a consumer version of its Telepresence videoconferencing suite.

The first of the new products will arrive in stores in January.
