Cobra's S-Series iRadar Detector Connects via BluetoothJanuary 14, 2013 By Jack Cotter
Cobra Electronics Corporation's expanded S-Series iRadar detector won a CES Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Award.
The Cobra S-Series is the first Bluetooth-enabled under-the-hood radar detector. Paired with a smartphone, it uses the iRadar Community app to share information about police, camera enforcement locations, dangerous intersections and more. The app is available for Android and iOS users, and has a new user-interface. It can also be used to find a car using GPS information. When a call comes in, the iRadar notifications will fade to the background.
Also in the iRadar line, Cobra showed the new iRadar ATOM. It is 35% smaller than then iRadar 200, yet provides double the performance and protection.
In addition, Cobra showed the Gatekeeper Bluetooth garage door opening system. For convenience, the system can use the existing wiring in most garages.
Finally, the Cobra AirWave is a portable Bluetooth receiver that makes older docks and stereos Bluetooth compatible. The $39.95 Cobra AirWave can connect to speakers using a 3.5mm cable, 3.5mm to RCA, or USB to micro-USB, and is rechargeable.
"Over the years, most of us have invested a significant amount of money in home or car audio systems that represented the state-of-the-art in their day, and more recently we've purchased new smartphones and tablets that render our old equipment obsolete," said Kiran Kripakaran, assistant category manager for Cobra.
"Cobra AirWave solves this problem by bridging these two distinct music generations, and with an incredibly affordable price point, this is a very simple solution for just about everyone."
