Shapiro Rips California Regs

Consumer Electronics Association President and CEO Gary Shapiro took aim at California’s proposed energy regulations in an opinion piece published in the San Francisco Chronicle Tuesday, arguing that the regulations would cost the state millions in tax revenue and cost thousands of jobs.

“We respectfully urge the California Energy Commission to drop its proposed regulations and work with industry to develop market-based and consumer-friendly alternatives that won’t hurt California’s economy, consumers or industry innovation,” Shapiro wrote in the piece, adding that television manufacturing is already involving in a direction that points to greater energy efficiency.

The commission was to meet Wednesday, to possibly give final consideration to the regulations.
