Dealerscope Talks To: John Shalam
Dealerscope: You are a person of many diverse interests beyond just consumer electronics – and some of those interests you have even managed to weave into your work in the electronics industry – namely, your involvement as chair of the CEA Foundation, among other activities. Talk a bit about why you feel that “giving back” is so important, and how you wish to inspire others to do the same.
Shalam: I’m so blessed and fortunate, to be able to do what I’ve done and have a wonderful wife and great sons and grandchildren, and have a successful company and recognition. It’s really a wonderful thing, and I feel that I need to share some of my good success and wealth and help other people.
Particularly, I’ve had personal experiences with my mother and mother-in-law, who are both gone now. But in their later years, they were both homebound and really lonely. The biggest single trademark, with older people, is loneliness.
