Despite a leaked brochure earlier this week that hinted at a forthcoming price cut for the Nintendo Wii console, Nintendo continues to deny that one is on the way.

A company spokesperson told the Web site computerandvideogames.com that the company currently has no plans for such a move, and any talk to the contrary is "rumour and speculation."

A leaked Toys "R' Us promotion that surfaced this week advertised a "Wii Price Cut" to $199, down from the current price of $249.

Both of the Wii's rivals, the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360, have had their prices cut in recent months.

Of course Nintendo denies a price drop. If the public knows a price drop is coming before it happens, they won't buy a Wii for $249. Nintendo is just making sure they can get as many sales as possible before they cut the price.

This is how it always works.
