Coinciding with CES 2012, Digital Experience highlighted a variety of featured-packed innovations at its rodeo-themed event in Las Vegas. Dealerscope said "howdy" to the following companies.
DeLorme showcased its inReach satellite communicator, which provides two-way texts, tracks progress and operates alone or in conjunction with a smartphone. Originally designed for hard-core outdoor extremists, the product has become popular even with casual travelers.
Alone, as a GPS communicator, inReach can be pre-loaded with up to three check-in messages for pushbutton delivery; designate delivery to email addresses, cell phones, Facebook or Twitter; send SOS alerts with your GPS location; button lock prevents false alarms; receive delivery confirmation for all messages and SOS alerts via LED; and let others track your progress online.
Paired with a cell phone, users can compose messages up to 160 characters on your phone or GPS keyboard; send messages to, receive responses from email contacts, cell phones, and other inReach users; use the interactive SOS-describe your emergency in detail and exchange status updates with Response Center.
The MSRP for $250 in addition to three airtime plans-Safety, which is $9 a month and includes SOS; Recreation, which is $24 a month and includes unlimited tracked and 40 message a month; and Expedition, which is $50 a month and includes unlimited tracking and 120 messages a month.
