Retail Sales Jump in March; CE Down

CE and appliance sales post 1.3 percent drop
Domestic retail sales rose in March for the third straight month, according to figures released Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Commerce. The department reported a rise of 1.6 percent in the month, after February sales rose 0.5 percent.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters had expected a 1.2 percent gain.

However, electronics and appliances were among the few weak categories, posting a 1.3 percent drop in sales on the month. Sales dropped from $8.88 billion in February to $8.76 billion in March, according to the department’s estimated numbers.
