Industry veteran and longtime Maxell executive Don Patrican died Sunday, Feb. 3, after a long battle with cancer. Arrangements are still pending. Dealerscope will provide an update when more information is available.

"The entire Maxell family is feeling this loss deeply. Don was an important part of our organization for many years," the company said in a statement. "We will all miss him very much."

A Dealerscope Hall of Fame inductee in 1999, Patrican spent 11 years at Maxell, mainly as executive vice president, before taking a job as executive vice president of business development at Wrapsol. Prior to working at Maxell, Patrican spent 11 years at Polaroid, mainly as director of marketing.

Patrican was known for driving sales at the companies he worked for, developing promising talent and doing so with an openess and sense of humor that won him many friends in the CE industry.  He was known throughout the industry for his leadership skills and loyalty.

Born in Massachusetts, Patrican earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Miami. Three-year terms at Proctor & Gamble, Memorex and Karex led to Maxell, where he developed its consumer videotape business as national video sales manager.

In 1986, Patrican joined Polaroid as national sales and marketing manage. He was promoted to director of marketing for U.S. consumer products in 1989, and eventually director of national accounts in marketing and director of channel marketing before returning to Maxell in 1998.
