E-tailers' CES Presence

January 2001
By Tatyana Sinioukov

Here's a quick rundown of what e-tailers and companies that provide support and services for them are doing at the show.

SatisFusion, a provider of customer, retention-based support services for e-tailers, will debut its eRetentions Platform. The eRetentions Platform integrates ESPs, warranty claims processing, sales and distribution support services, and e-support content into one customer-branded system. Geared toward consumer electronics e-tailers, this program offers such services as repair arrangement, status tracking and customized product portfolio management. One of the distinguishing features of the eRetentions Platform is its after-sale product support and how-to content.

In time for CES, MobileToys is relaunching its mobile electronics Web site, www.mobiletoys.com. The site will sport a new design with streamlined purchasing capabilities, improved navigation tools and updated content with a stronger emphasis on personalized shopping. There are currently over 6,000 products from 140 brands to choose from, the company said. Also, the site contains a database of more than 2,000 dealers for warranted installation.

MobileToys will also introduce new versions of the MAID2000 Mobile Audio Installation Director and TSS2000 business management software, Internet-enabled management applications designed to help mobile electronics dealers manage their business. Both programs will provide real-time access to retailer inventory and scheduling information.

MAID2000 is a vehicle database designed to help retailers sell and install mobile electronics products, such as car audio, security components, remote car starters and cruise-control systems. TSS2000 is a management program featuring scheduling, invoicing, inventory control and bookkeeping capabilities.

Buylink will showcase its b-to-b content in product categories including audio (auto, home, portable), video, computers, cameras, printers, TVs, telecom, handheld devices and software.

"Buylink has over 14,000 members in its for-the-trade-only b-to-b community," said Kabira Hatland, director of marketing communications. "We started in the gift industry, and the site has grown based on the content that our users post there. Over time, consumer electronics became a viable category for our retailers and vendors."

GetPlugged.com, a specialty consumer electronics Web site and a subsidiary of KnowledgeLINK, has a number of announcements for CES. Notably, its Web site won the CES Innovations Award for design and engineering in the online/Internet category.

Last month, GetPlugged was authorized by Sony to market Sony home audio, video and digital imaging products in a Sony store located on the site. There, consumers can view and search Sony products by name, model number and product category. When they want to purchase a Sony product, they are directed to a local Sony dealer. The products include TVs, CD players, a/v receivers, portable stereos, hi-fi components, DVD players, VCRs and digital cameras.
