Earth Day Roundup: Recycling Record, and Best Buy and Apple NewsApril 22, 2014 By Stephen Silver
- The Consumer Electronics Association said Monday that the CE industry recycled 620 million pounds of electronics in 2013, for a new record. The amount, according to CEA, is more than double the total from three years ago.
- Of those pounds, 96 million were recycled by Best Buy, which it calls an "unofficial world record." Best Buy will present a gift card of a minimum of $20 in exchange for any working gadget through April 26.
- Apple, meanwhile, announced that it will begin offering free recycling of all used products. According to the AP, Apple will begin to "power all of its stores, offices and data centers with renewable energy."
