As it looks to continue its pace of innovation in the smart home space, GE Appliances, a Haier company, announced the creation of a new SmartHome Solutions team that will aim to “transform the heart of the home and how owners experience the kitchen, laundry, and many of life’s everyday moments.”
In a statement, GE Applainces explained that the new team will be charged with continuing to help consumers manage their households in a more efficient manner. That mission means the group will extend their reach beyond just the kitchen and laundry room to all other areas of the home where automation technologies, data analytics, and cloud-based applications bring convenience to consumers homes.
GE Appliances has tapped Shawn Stover to lead the new team. Stover, who will serve as the VP of SmartHome Solutions, has been with the company since 1998, serving in a variety of engineering, marketing, sales, and operational roles. Most recently, he was the General Manager or Cross Product and Connected Home. In his new role, GE Appliances said, Stover will be responsible for leading the overall SmartHome Solutions IoT strategy for all product lines, brands, and services.
“Shawn’s network across multiple industries, his deep product knowledge, strong business acumen and demonstrated success in creating collaboration make him uniquely qualified to lead this inventive group,” Kevin Nolan, Chief Executive Officer for GE Appliances, said in the statement. “Our ambition is to be first with connected products and services that deliver real, everyday value, whether that’s using an app to turn your oven off, controlling your air conditioner from anywhere in the house, or automatically ordering more laundry detergent before you run out. There’s an energy that’s evident in our team that promises many exciting outcomes.”
The plan for Stover is to look closely at GE Appliances’ technical capabilities and analytic skills and take them to the next level, the company said. He’ll do that by expanding the company’s partnerships and building new ones with leaders in the WiFi world. GE Appliances Geneva voice assistant is already capable of working through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, among other voice control systems.
The SmartHome Solutions team also plans to expand the Haier U+ Smart Life Platform in the U.S. The Haier U+ system “creates a unified world” where products from different appliance manufacturers can connect to one another, GE Applainces explained.
