Google Buys Gecko Design

Over the weekend, Google announced its fourth acquisition for August: California designer Gecko Design. As part of the acquisition, the consumer electronics designer’s five-person team will be joining the Google X research lab. The deal further supports Google’s intention to begin designing more consumer electronics, such as smartphones and wearables.

Gecko Design was established in 1996 and has helped design products for Dell, Hewlett-Packard, Logitech, Fitbit, Sonos and One Laptop Per Child.

Gecko Design president and owner, Jacques Gagné is optimistic about the acquisition, saying he believes it will be a valuable opportunity for his five-person team.
