HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair Opens in April
The annual Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) opens in April. The spring event will run concurrent with the International ICT Expo at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from April 13-16. Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the two fairs enter their 15th years and will provide an international platform for around 3,500 exhibitors to showcase their products to global buyers.
Last year, according to the HKTDC, the fairs welcomed more than 94,000 buyers from 138 countries and regions to the show.
According to a statement from the HKTDC, the Hong Kong electronics industry is the largest merchandise export earner of the territory, reaching $329 billion in 2017, up 9 percent year-over-year. As such, the HKTDC said, Hong Kong serves as the “ideal location to stage influential trade fairs” for the industry.
“HKTDC organizes the Spring and Autumn Electronics Fairs in April and October respectively each year to align with the sourcing periods of global buyers, Benjamin Chai, Deputy Executive Director at HKTDC, said in the statement. “The Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) is the largest spring electronics event in Asia with more than 2,900 exhibitors taking part this year. Held concurrently with the Spring Electronics Fair is the International ICT Expo, featuring some 600 exhibitors to create more cross-sector business opportunities for the industry.”
Here’s a look at some of the unique things happening at this year’s HKTDC Spring show:
- Startup Zone: Launched at the same show last year, the Startup Zone will return. The area features the latest innovations across several different categories, including apps, IoT, consumer tech, eHealth, robotics, and digital business. The zone will also host a series of themed events that will allow startups to present ideas during pitch sessions; new mentoring sessions will help startups connect with potential partners; and sharing sessions will feature idea swapping and business tips for startups.
- Tech Hall: Also introduced last year, the Tech Hall features tech-savvy products that are organized into four different zones: Connected Home, Robotics and Unmanned Tech, Virtual Reality, and Wearable Electronics.
- ICT Smart City: The ICT Expo will be themed around the smart city this year. The plan for the expo, which runs concurrent to the Spring Fair, is to bring together a wide range of related ICT solutions to develop “efficient and sustainable urban planning and management.” A Smart City zone will be launched to present Hong Kong Smart City Blueprint, and a five-year plan for smart city development will be showcased.
