In the latest global rankings of smartphone market share from IDC, Nokia and Research in Motion (RIM) have kept the two highest spots- with Apple moving into third place.

According to a writeup of the survey by Wired's GadgetLab blog, Nokia has 38.9 percent of the smartphone market, RIM has 19.8 percent, and Apple 19 percent. HTC and Samsung took the fourth and fifth spots. Nokia led with 40 percent last year.

In the fourth quarter specifically, Nokia, RIM and Apple kept the top three spots but Motorola, on the strength of the Droid and other popular phones, rose to #4.
