Inside Legrand's Acquisition of NuVo

NuVo Technologies has provided more details to CustomRetailer on the recently announced acquisition of NuVo by Legrand North America. NuVo will continue to be led by David Rodarte in his new role as vice president and general manager, reporting to Doug Fikse, Legrand president, Home Systems Division.

CustomRetailer: The announcement of the acquisition said that NuVo will operate as an independent business within Legrand's Home Systems division.  Will its status be as a Legrand portfolio brand - for example, along the lines of Vantage and Middle Atlantic - or will NuVo be defined separately rather than as a brand under the Legrand umbrella?

David Rodarte: NuVo will continue to operate and sell products under the NuVo brand name in the marketplace.

CR: The announcement stated that the acquisition is meant to complement Legrand's product portfolio. Can you address in what specific areas Legrand will benefit from the NuVo acquisition, in terms of product category areas Legrand had not served before - and in what product category areas NuVo stands to benefit, from its addition to the Legrand family? Is there overlap that needs to be sorted out to avoid redundancies?

Rodarte: Going forward, the NuVo Technologies team will work with leaders across Legrand to define, develop and launch new and innovative product solutions for its customers. As well, Legrand may evaluate utilizing NuVo Technologies' products in other market segments.  Newly formed cross-unit teams will help identify new opportunities for growth and technology sharing across the Legrand businesses.

Legrand acquires best-in-class companies - and NuVo Technologies fits that definition.  The companies both provide audio solutions and have a shared "customer first" focus.  Legrand understands and appreciates NuVo Technologies' products, markets, company culture and customer service philosophy. 

NuVo is known for its "customer service" in providing best-in-class products to the systems integrator - and for delivering high-fidelity systems at affordable price points.  It understands the audio markets and provides solutions that help its customers be more successful.  NuVo contributes this expert knowledge and its direct relationships with more than 1,000 integrators and more than 60 distributors worldwide and provides a channel capable of supporting and sustaining rapid innovation and growth.  Legrand and NuVo would together offer a variety of home systems solutions across the sum of their channels.

CR: Is there a great deal of overlap in terms of the numbers and kinds of dealers that Legrand and NuVo serve?  How many dealers and what types of dealers will Legrand gain access to with the acquisition - and how many and what types of dealers will NuVo gain access to?  Will your current dealer support structure remain intact?

Rodarte: Both Legrand and NuVo offer strong dealer and customer bases. NuVo Technologies contributes direct relationships with more than 1,000 Electronics Systems integrators. Likewise Legrand has an expansive network of dealers and distributors that cover the security and electrical markets with some overlap into the markets served by Electronics System Integrators.

CR: The announcement states the NuVo leadership team will remain in place. Will NuVo remain headquartered in Hebron, Kentucky? If not, are other employees beyond the NuVo leadership team being asked to transition to other locations?

Rodarte: NuVo will remain in the Hebron facility and there will be no immediate changes to the workforce or facilities as a result of this announcement. As our business grows, we anticipate additional growth within NuVo.

CR: What are the plans going forward to exhibit NuVo at any upcoming trade shows - and if so, will NuVo co-locate with other Legrand brands?  

Rodarte: NuVo will continue to operate and sell products under the NuVo brand name and will be represented with a NuVo Suite at CES and a dedicated NuVo stand (#5-R86) at Integrated Systems Europe.

CR: What new product/technology projects that may have been in development during this acquisition period will NuVo continue to develop?

Rodarte: NuVo Technologies will continue to provide great products and service to its customers.  In addition, NuVo will continue to use its expertise to define customer needs and deliver products and solutions to meet them, focusing on the launch of its highly anticipated new Wireless Audio System.

In the future, additional innovative audio products, including Legrand products, will be developed and offered to customers

CR: Can you sum up the greatest benefits attached to the acquisition of NuVo by Legrand - for NuVo, for Legrand, and for your dealers?

Rodarte: For NuVo, by joining Legrand, NuVo strengthens its position by broadening market reach, and leverages Legrand's vast capabilities and resources to deliver expanded solutions to its customers. As part of Legrand, NuVo will have access to substantial resources to accelerate growth and to expand its capabilities. Legrand brings NuVo additional exposure of the NuVo product line to its various professional channels, as well as vertical company synergies that will afford opportunities for economies of scale, wider brand exposure, and increased strength in the R&D relationship process for NuVo.

For Legrand, NuVo is a well-respected industry leader in audio, designing and manufacturing an extensive selection of award-winning products for the audio market, including wired multi-room amplifiers, multi-room systems utilizing powerline, wireless multi-room amplifiers, controllers and control applications, source equipment, speakers and related accessories. NuVo will be an integral part of the Home Systems business division of Legrand North America.

NuVo's solid sales network - its sales team, integrators and installers, consultants and distributors - understands the markets, the customers, and the growth potential and provides a platform of audio innovation to propel Legrand toward future growth as part of Legrand's focus on audio with the integrated home solution.

We will offer more than 5,000 products to A/V customers - to provide the most complete offering for infrastructure products and solutions in A/V markets.

Joined with Legrand, NuVo will continue to focus on quality multi-room audio systems while providing customers with exceptional service and support.  Customers will have access to its different audio solutions for installation flexibility for the best in-home customization possible.

A/V specifiers and consultants will now have access to a cooperative network of both Legrand and NuVo resources and products to help them specify all of their A/V needs.  NuVo Technologies will provide even more innovative audio products, and in time, will invigorate the A/V markets with new offerings made possible with the product combinations of NuVo and Legrand.  

The combination of NuVo's world-class manufacturing, distribution facilities and readily available products with Legrand's global manufacturing and logistical capabilities will further ensure that customers have the products they need when they need them.

Putting customers first is key for both NuVo Technologies and Legrand. That focus will continue.
