The number of consumers who would like their TVs to connect to the Internet has reached 60 percent, iSuppli Corp. said in a survey released Tuesday. The research firm concluded from its data that this interest will “help propel rapid sales growth for network-enabled consumer electronics in the coming years.”

According to the data, 61 percent of consumers answered “agreed” or “strongly agreed” when asked whether they desire Internet connectivity with the their televisions. That number jumped to 71 percent when asked only of male customers.

As a result of this interest, iSuppli concluded that sales of “network-equipped devices”- which include PCs themselves, DVD recorders, DTVs, cable modems, media adapters, and all home network equipment- will reach 732.9 million units by 2011, up from 225.3 million last year (see attached graph.)
