Legislation to provide new funding for research into electronic waste reduction and recycling cleared a hurdle in Congress Wednesday, as the bill passed a House committee by a voice vote.

According to Congressional Quality's Web site, the bill would authorize $60 million for grants from the Environmental Protection Agency to fund research into improving waste collection, as well as recycling awareness. The legislation is supported by both industry associations and retailers such as Best Buy.
