For a growing number of financial and health reasons, housewares and small appliances appears to be a good category for vendors and channels. The global housewares market showed an increase of 4.7 percent, while the U.S. market increased by 1.5 percent, according to the 2011 IHA State of the Industry Report. Similarly, the market research firm Fredonia is projecting that the demand for small kitchen appliances in the U.S. is expected to total 123.0 million units in 2015 based on annual growth of 1.7 percent from 2010.
As we prepare for this year’s IHS in Chicago, we are getting a whiff of what’s heading into stores and homes in 2012. The kitchen is a great opportunity for retailers at this point of time—since the trend seems to indicate that appliance vendors are broadening their distribution into CE channels and the mass market.
Are you ready to carry small appliances? At IHS, we’ll see which categories are hot for 2013. What else might retailers sell as add-ons for greater profitability as they look to create points of differentiation from their competitors?
