LG Redesigns webOS as its Smart TV Platform
LG Electronics announced at CES that its webOS, bought from HP last March, has been reworked as the company's new Smart TV platform.
The OS features a redesigned user interface and be implemented in more than 70 percent of LG's Smart TVs this year. It is designed to make content searching and viewing, connecting with other devices and the initial TV setup process easier, according to the company.
The first time the user turns on the webOS-enabled LG Smart TV, for example, an animated character named BeanBird appears onscreen to help get connected and walk the user through setup. The viewer can shake the Magic Remote or press the OK button to receive further advice.
