Maxell last week honored the winner of its 12th annual John Lennon songwriting contest, handing its Maxell Song of the Year award to musician and songwriter Matt Cusson. The winner is also a keyboard player who has toured with Grammy-winning singer Brian McKnight, who presented the award.

Cusson received a $20,000 prize check from Maxell, as well as a computer from Apple and prizes from Cinema Display and Logic software, for his song, “One Of Those Nights." The Berklee College of Music grad had earlier received both the Grand Prize in the jazz category and the Lennon Award.
