The Mobile Enhancement Retailers Association said Friday that is is canceling its KnowledgeFest 2009 event, which was scheduled for this March in Kansas City. In a statement, the group's president, Barry Vogel, called the move "a very hard decision, [made] after a great deal of consideration."

"MERA has a responsibility to the manufacturers and sponsors who finance KnowledgeFest as well as the retail membership who must control their expenses in these volatile times," he added.

Vogel attributed the decision, which was agreed to unanimously by the group's board of trustees, to the economic climate, as well as "lagging attendance" at most recent industry events. Instead, MERA will focus this year on enhancement of member benefits, strengthening of retailer-supplier relationships, and planning for KnowledgeFest in 2010.
