Meridian showcased enhancements to its Reference series at a demonstration last week in the theater at its New York City SoHo-based offices.

John Buchanan, Meridian executive vice president for global sales and group marketing, introduced the demo, reiterating the company’s commitment to “the pursuit of perfect sound and picture at home – a never-ending journey.”

A focal point of the demo was the centrally placed DSP7200 HC  (for “Horizontal Center”) – a companion piece to the DSP7200 Digital Active Loudspeaker that was “three-and-a-half years in incubation,” according to Ken Forsythe, director of product management.  Psychoacoustic principles that allow the adjustment of image height when watching movies in a home theater were employed in its design, he explained, resulting in the development of a Center Elevation setting that creates the perception of an “acoustic image” in a projection screen’s center that “moves” with the image on the screen.

All of the enhanced Reference series models including the DSP7200HC have just become available. Suggested retail pricing is as follows: the DSP7200 HC center channel: $19,000 each; the DSP7200 tower speaker: $38,000/pair; the Signature Reference 808v5 CD player: $22,000; the Reference 861v8 digital sound controller: $25,000 (excluding optional cards); and the Reference 818v2 high-performance preamplifier: $16,000.
