Metra’s CEDIA Expo Focus: The EVOLV Cable LineSeptember 30, 2013 By Nancy Klosek
Metra Home Theater Group spotlighted at Expo its new line of Ethereal EHD EVOLV DPL-certified cables, custom-programmable and earmarked for long-run video applications including in Ultra HD installations.
The line represents an expansion in features of the previously introduced EHD line, and, like that line, offers data correction built into the cables. More than 12,000 EHD cables have been sold since last year's show, according to Miranda Grantham, Metra's West Coast sales manager, and none have been returned for defects.
EVOLV cables can be set up by installers using the $198 Activator, and can also be re-programmed by an installer should changes ever be required. They are powered by a USB cable and contain built-in data accelerators that keep performance levels at an optimum rate, says the company. Their design is such that they may be used for runs of up to 150 feet without requiring the integration of baluns or repeaters, Grantham said.
The company is also offering an installer educational initiative. The EHD training program consists of two one-week courses focusing on two paths: custom integration and home automation. The courses will likely commence early in 2014, said Grantham.
