In the increasingly connected home, more and more PC-centric gear is joining home theater products, portable electronics and peripherals as integral components of the network.
Despite the huge amount of data being pumped through the network, few of those desktop and notebook PCs are sold with the high-speed cables needed to optimize network performance or the power devices needed to protect the components.
The way Noel Lee, Head Monster of Monster Cable, sees it that disconnect is causing retailers to lose millions of dollars in possible sales. To help solve the problem, his company has aligned with computer giant HP to produce a new line of of HP Monster cables that includes DisplayPort Cables, Advanced Cables for HDMI, Ethernet cables, USB cables, FireWire cables and DVI monitor cables.
"There hasn't been a solution that offset the type of clarity and performance needed," Lee said. "Retailers need to have the solutions to make that need clear to the consumer."
By combining the HP and Monster names, Lee believes the products will help retailers selling computer-related products have an easier time bundling the accessories as part of a full networking or home entertainment solution.
"So many consumers have HP products, but when they come into a store they don't always know what they need for a truly high-performance solution," Lee said. "To make cables easier to sell and to shop, we need to add clarity under one roof."
Monster will also provide retailers with the merchandising and training programs (through its M5 program) needed to effectively sell the new products. "The more the demos, the higher the sales," Lee said.
The HP Monster family also includes Monster's GreenPower line of PowerCenters, which are designed to save consumers energy and money by automatically turning off PC peripherals - printer, monitor, scanner, speakers - when the PC is shut down. The unit, which also offers surge protection, automatically powers up the peripherals when the PC is turned back on.
